This article is about a fanmade weapon by NimoStar.
It should not be confused with official sources.

The Robot Gun is an AI-assisted weapon, specialized in rapidly acquiring targets and assaulting them with a hail of never-missing bullets. It was made for the MechCommander:Lostech mod.

"The incorporation of multi-lens targeting and AI makes the Robo-Gun the best machinegun device. You may not like it, but its what peak performance looks like. TONS: 24.0"

Battlefield notes[edit]

A medium range very, very heavy machinegun, this IS gun never misses. However, due to the high firing frequency, this is best used with your 'Mechs standing still. For this purpose, Firing from here (C) is essential. Contrary to expectations, the Robo-Gun is still pretty bad at attacking the enemy's cockpit. It deals spread damage but in theory its damage to time firing ratio is better than an AC20, as well as having better range. The Robo-Gun is very heavy (as heavy as weapons such as the Heavy Gauss), but not particularly expensive for its size. While Robo-Gun power vs mechs may leave something to be desired while in movement, it excels vs. small targets such as infantry, elementals and little vehicles, as well as turrets. In addition, the Robo-Gun ammunition is very light and can be shared with regular (non-light) IS machineguns and machinegun arrays, and even heavy machine gun arrays.

  • Min Range: 24
  • Max Range: 150

'Mechs that use it[edit]

History[edit]

A product of the most unholy of alliances, the Robot Gun is actually a collaboration between Capellan Confederation AI research and Federated Suns targeting computer reverse engineering, made for the sole purpose of defeating the Clans in a Second Star League joint initiative. It was thought that "rapid fire sniping" could become a reality with the latest advances in cybernetics, and this was eventually proven to be true (although not of the expected use in destroying 'Mech cockpits). With the collaboration quickly coming to an end and old rivalries rapidly flaring up, the joint development has stopped and, although modestly successful, the Robot Gun seems a novel development condemned to become lostech in record time.

Rumors[edit]

Another nail in the premature coffin of the Robot Gun was that rumors started to surface about its onboard AI being actually sentient and so good at its job because it is conditioned to really enjoy to kill. Some believe the rumors started as an inside-joke amongst repair crews and then spiraled out of control as some MechWarriors started to actually believe the jokes (or were pranked into it). There was no official comment on the matter as AI development is strictly classified. However, the rumours are completely unfounded, or so the Robot Guns will say when asked in the Terminal.

Field tests did describe the Robot Gun's targeting as "a bit overzealous" against infantry, but this was ascribed to its human figure interpretation and motion detection sensors. It is rather possible that, if Robot Gun development would have continued, it would find itself banned from the field of battle due to the limited pilot input on target acquisition and its inability to discriminate between friend and foe, and civilian and military targets, without the detection of emitted electronic signals.
